Challenger League teams are created to provide local competition with balanced teams to keep the environment competitive, player development focused, FUN and local!! These competitive teams are heavily dependent on parent/volunteer coaches that have oversight from age group directors that mentor and guide the coaches through the challenges of managing a year-round team. Our aim is to provide 6-12 year old’s a local team one of 11 locations.

Local teams from the following locations compete against one another in the local Challenger league.

The pool of players in an age group are viewed as club mates that both train/compete against/with each other at various times of the year. Our coaches are mentored by age group directors and expected to have a players first mindset while working with their teams.

CHALLENGER MIDDLE SCHOOL LEAGUE INFO

State Teams are created at U10 and older for ambitious players that want to train and compete with coaches and teammates that share the same ambitions and abilities. There are many levels of state competition that differ in their levels of commitment, expectations and abilities. As players get older providing multiple teams and various levels helps to assure that each player is placed on a team that supports their development and ambition in the sport. The club is viewed as one large team where players take pride in moving from one team to another when needed or earned. We pride ourselves in valuing the needs of each individual regardless of what team they are on. Collaborative observation and evaluation efforts among the NUU coaches contributes to player movement as it does not limit the opinion to one or two individual coaches.

Team Names have significance and reflect their levels of commitment, ambition and competition.

”Select” teams are created at the U9-U12 players for more ambitious players. The Select teams will be created after tryouts. The players on the Select team will train together and play for the Select team at the State level AND with their local Challenger league team, giving the most ambitious players extra soccer while developing the entire pool of players at this age.

”Royalty” teams are the most ambitious teams in our community. Every team trains in a way that displays the intelligence and hard-working culture of our community. “Royalty” teams represent our community at the state and regional level in both U.S. Youth Soccer (state competition) & U.S. Club Soccer (regional competition). The goal for these teams is to attend National Championship tournaments and college showcases that provide exposure to college coaches and professional academies.

”Futures” teams, formerly referred to as “B” teams, the teams and their coaches will be a higher priority as they are trained to earn a spot on the “Royalty” teams. These “2nd” teams will be learning the same principles (style of play) as the “Royalty” teams. The players on these teams are expected to be ambitiously working towards improving themselves while learning how to play the “NUU way.” It is hoped that in the “future” they are prepared to make a seamless transition to a “Royalty” team when the opportunity is presented.

”Color” teams, in the instance that we have more than two state teams at an age group we simply name them by color based on how many teams we have. Navy, Gray, White, Black, Silver, etc. These teams typically play in lower levels of competition and are not as serious as the Royalty and Futures teams.

We don’t offer any programs until a player reaches four years old. If you are eager to give your child a head start we highly recommend reading the book SOCCER STARTS AT HOME and implementing the ideas it presents.
